When you open the site
The site is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. To deliver it to you and protect it against attacks, Vercel processes technically necessary data on every visit: your IP address, date and time, the address you open, the page you came from, and your browser and operating system.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure, reachable site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Vercel processes the data on our behalf and keeps it only as long as operation and security require. As Vercel is based in the USA, data may go there; Vercel is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and the EU standard contractual clauses apply between us as well.
Your choice of language
On your first visit to the home page, the site checks which language your browser prefers and shows you English or German. If you pick a language yourself, your browser remembers the choice in its local storage (the entry “lang”). Both happen only on your device and nothing reaches us. You can delete the entry at any time in your browser's site data. As it only serves the feature you are using, we do not ask separately.
When you write to us
Requests for access, replies from harbours and charter enquiries all come to us by email. If you write to us, we use your address and your message to reply (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). Our mail is hosted by Strato AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. We delete it once the matter is settled and no legal duty requires us to keep it.
Your rights
You can ask at any time which data we hold about you, and have it corrected, deleted or restricted. You can object to the processing and receive your data in a common format (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). An email to hello@upwindsailors.com is enough.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. Ours is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens in the Netherlands, but you can also turn to the authority in your own country.
